Encounter ensues during CASO in Srinagar

Three militants and a civilian were killed in an encounter and clashes in Chattabal area of Srinagar on Saturday.

The police spokesman didn't say anything about the protester's killing.

Three militants, including Fayaz Ahmad Hammal of Fateh Kadel, were killed in the gunfight that raged since early morning today.

The militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit. Mir's wife was also injured in the said attack by the terrorists, said the police.

Announcing that the encounter at Srinagar had concluded, Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir, SP Vaid, took to Twitter to confirm that bodies of three militants were recovered from the encounter site.

Residents in Kashmir say a automobile belonging to Indian troops ran over and killed a person as protesters clashed with authorities forces following a gunbattle with rebels. Three photographers were injured in the clashes. He said during the search the hiding militants fired upon the search party and it was retaliated leading to an encounter.

The encounter broke out when a team of CRPF and police launched a cordon and search operation in the area based on a tip-off. A CRPF jawan was injured in the encounter but is now stable and recovering in a hospital, said CRPF spokesperson.

A police official said a CRPF officer suffered minor injuries during the gunfight and was admitted to hospital. "Is there no sense of humanity left in India?" Internet services were also been suspended in the area, sources said.

The JRL comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar appealed to the people to observe shutdown, tomorrow, against the killings.

Meanwhile, gunmen abducted two men from their homes in northern Hajin town late Friday.

Elsewhere in the Kashmir valley, three civilians and a Special Police Officer (SPO) were shot dead by terrorists. It added that the bullet-riddled corpses of the victims were found by the locals near a mosque in the area's Raheem Dar Mohalla.
