Stamp Out Hunger food drive May 12

Letter carriers to collect for area food banks on May 12

Thank you to the community

On Saturday, May 12, letter carriers in 194 cities in central and western Oklahoma will collect canned food donations from households on their route. Your letter carrier will pick up your donation and deliver it to a local food bank.

"We're proud to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the food drive", said Earl Park Postmaster Paige Stillabower.

Carriers will bring the food to local food banks, pantries or shelters. "It's an honor to be able to help people in need all across the United States and to do so in a way that brings out the best in so many Americans". Children who receive breakfast and lunch in school will be at home all day.

The Postal Drive is the biggest food drive of the year for the Branford Food Pantry on Harrison Avenue; nationwide, the drive yields as much as 70 million pounds of food annually. All this food will make a real difference for the more than 1,000 families served every month by the Food Shelf at Second Harvest.

Since its inception in 1992, the annual drive has been the largest single-day food drive in the nation, with post offices and their employees across the nation participating in the growing drive.

While all non-perishable food is welcome, there is a special need for peanut butter, jelly or jam, stew, tuna fish, juices, cereal, hearty soups, canned chicken or pork, hash and other meat-containing foods. We are asking the community to help us by donating canned food items through the Letter Carriers' Food Drive.
