Ferrell was taken to a hospital for unspecified injuries.
Anchorman star Will Ferrell has been taken to hospital after a auto accident in California that left one person critically injured.
Ferrell's SUV flipped in a two-car accident on the I-5 freeway in Orange County, California around 11 p.m. local time. Ferrell was one of the three passengers in the auto.
According to TMZ, witnesses said Ferrell's SUV was side-swiped by another vehicle.
A total of five people were involved: three men and a woman in her 20s in the SUV, and the 22-year-old male driver of the Toyota.
Actor/comedian Will Ferrell was involved in a rollover crash on Interstate 5 in Orange County after leaving an event in Oceanside Thursday night.
It is unclear what injuries Will suffered, but he seemed OK as firefighters and paramedics arrived to the scene close to midnight on Thursday - bystanders saw him talking on his phone.
Photos of the crash on U.S. website TMZ show the Hollywood star talking on a mobile phone as he is carried on a stretcher. He was back at home hours after the drama.
Ferrell had been in San Diego earlier that evening to appear at a amusing or Die event, per the Washington Post.
"The driver of the Toyota apparently had fallen asleep and struck the rear end of the Navigator causing it to hit the centre divider wall", California Highway Patrol officer Rafael Reynoso told media. He was taken for treatment along with two others.
A representative for Ferrell told TMZ that he has since been released from hospital and is doing well.
