Heading into the Wednesday night's contest, the Yankees trailed the first place Red Sox by 4.5 games, and were looking to rebound following their terrible 14-1 loss on Tuesday - which is precisely what they did.
"Yeah, you know, Tyler Austin is playing the game the right way, clean, the right way, and some guy decides to fire one at you 99, you know, you never know how you react in that situation, so I had no issue with that", Boone said.
"It's Yankees-Red Sox. That's what everybody wants". Lots of runs, lots of drama, lots of punches. In a possible act of damage control in support of their high-priced left-hander, the Red Sox announced that Price was removed from the game for precautionary reasons after experiencing a sensation in his left hand. It was the second of two benches-clearing incidents involving Austin after a questionable third-inning slide.
Former Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez said Austin's slide was a "no-no".
Kelly missed on his first attempt at hitting him but finally landed the blow two pitches later on a 98 miles per hour fastball.
Nolan Arenado struck out in his only at-bat during the Colorado Rockies' 6-4 win over the San Diego Padres, but he was ejected after charging the mound when Luis Perdomo threw a pitch behind him.
Four innings later, the Red Sox retaliated. The Yanks won the game 10-7 but everybody is going to remember the fight on the field. In only one inning, he allowed four runs on three hits with two walks.
Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez led the Yankees with three hits apiece. The Red Sox got a run back in the bottom of the first on a Hanley Ramirez home run, his second.
The inning was highlighted by a grand slam from JD Martinez off Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka.
After two offensive games to begin the series, I would expect tomorrow to be no different for these rivals as they face off for the third and final game tomorrow night.
Rick Porcello matches up against Gray today.
