Iranians among 14 killed in Syria airbase attack, Israel to be blamed?

"Our relations with our neighbors will be friendly relations", Rohani said. Trump extended sanctions waivers in January but has declined to re-certify the nuclear deal.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had promised a "big price to pay" for the suspected chemical attack on Douma.

Trump accuses Tehran of violating the spirit of the deal, which granted Iran relief from economic sanctions in exchange for limits on its nuclear activity and slowed its potential path to possession of a nuclear weapon.

Deadly missile strikes hit a Syrian military airbase on Monday, state media said, but Washington and Paris denied carrying them out in response to an alleged poison gas attack.

"Some think that Iran's nuclear movement has dried up in the 11th and 12th administrations, and our centrifuges are either not spinning or spinning slowly", Rouhani said in an address to a ceremony to unveil 83 nuclear achievements on the National Nuclear Technology Day.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Ali Akbar Salehi, said that domestic experts have managed to renovate Tehran Research Reactor (TRR), a 5 megawatt-thermal pool-type light water research reactor.

The Syrian conflict began when the Baath regime, in power since 1963 and led by Assad, responded with military force to peaceful protests demanding democratic reforms during the Arab Spring wave of uprisings, triggering an armed rebellion fuelled by mass defections from the Syrian army.

It remains unclear who carried out the attack. One MP, Nader Qazipour, said: "The [foreign] currency conditions have been chaotic in recent days". The U.S. dollar jumped to as much as 58,000 rials on the open market in the capital Tehran, according to some reports.

Republican Senator Bob Corker said "significant progress" had been made on bipartisan congressional legislation to "address the flaws in the agreement without violating USA commitments". Work already has begun on this front, the official said.

Azari-Jahromi said the attack mainly affected Europe, India and the United States, state television reported.

A decision to withhold a waiver would have effectively ended the deal between Iran, the U.S., China, France, Russia, Britain, Germany and the European Union.
