The program in some ways provides a belated welcome home to veterans who were not welcomed back when the returned from Vietnam. Angus King (I-ME) spoke in front of a proud veteran crowd decorated with hats, jackets, vests, and patches showing their towns and military branches.

March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day, designated to honor the men and women from the United States who served and sacrificed. "These veterans and all of you (veterans) in this room today have made sacrifices that have benefited all of us".

It's been more than 40 years, but for a number of Vietnam Veterans, the memories are just as vivid now as the day they were first called upon to serve. "We can say thank you with parades and Memorial Day, Veterans Day and with flyovers at ball games and the recognition that is now taking place for warriors all across our country all the time".

Each veteran was recognized with a lapel pin that symbolized the freedoms that they provided for us and our appreciation for their service.
