While we know it'll ride on the same Porsche-developed platform as the Mission E-called J1-we don't know if the two cars will share any major drivetrain components. Among the new models are the first all-electric SUV - the Audi e-tron - which is expected to roll off the production belt in Brussels from the end of the year, according to German news agency DPA. Audi decided that it needed to get back in the game after the R8 E-Tron, so it just announced that it's building the E-Tron GT and hit us with a teaser image.
Rupert Stadler, Audi Chairman of the Board, said: "We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric e-tron GT".
"We want to play a leading role in the massive disruption in our industry", Chief Executive Officer Rupert Stadler said Thursday at Audi's annual press conference at its headquarters in Ingolstadt.
"Together we will significantly expand our product range above all in the area of electrified drive systems and sporty SUVs", Stadler added. It'll be the first e-tron-badged Audi Sport model, paving the way for the halo brand's EV future. Audi Hungaria is ready to start production of the SUV's electric motor in Gyor, Hungary.
Audi has also significantly broadened its electrification roadmap across the entire model portfolio.
Audi has confirmed it will build an electrified four-door GT vehicle from 2020, expanding its forthcoming electric portfolio to three models.
According to Audi, the four-door sports vehicle will be "highly dynamic", previewing the future direction of the company's performance division.
Audi said its operating profit jumped more than 50 percent in 2017 to 4.67 billion euros ($5.76 billion) after special items, helped by cost cuts in development and sales and lower costs for its emissions scandal.
Audi has picked the small plant, with a staff of 2,700 people, as a lead factory for electric mobility within the parent Volkswagen group. Against this backdrop came the announcement that all core Audi models will soon be offered with "at least mild hybrid" engine options.
