ABC has long wanted a hit singing competition series (Duets, Rising Star, I could go on). Yet the music is just starting, and, if nothing else, ABC's determination to bring back "American Idol" is emerging as the most intriguing programming ploy of the current season.
Keep up with the "American Idol" community and see what's trending on social media from judges, contestants and fans.
Here's what you need to know when the series returns Sunday night.
On Sunday, American Idol is officially an ABC show - so we're telling you how to watch American Idol online and watch American Idol live this weekend to catch the first episode of the new season on its new network.
The groundbreaking reality TV singing competition debuted in 2002 and had enjoyed a fantastic run for a decade, ruling as the biggest shows on television. "I've had the opportunity to do some TV stuff through the years and turned it down, because I always focused on touring in my little kind of country-music world that I just kind of figured out". The other stars graded the performances, and at the end of each episode the two lowest-ranked contestants had a sing-off. Throughout the last two years, there was talk that it would return. The season two finale (Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken) attracted 38 million viewers. The show had a not-bad start (1.5 in adults 18-49) but couldn't sustain it, finishing at 1.1, along with 4.08 million viewers, for its lone season.
New judge Lionel Richie jokingly told ET in November that judging alongside Katy Perry and Luke Bryan felt like teaching Kindergarten - and he wasn't kidding. "They're not pushovers, there is no one mean judge". They replaced Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr, who judged in the previous three seasons. Prior to the original show going off the air, Perry was a guest judge on the show and was direct, to say the least, with the contestants. But what helped kick this new season of American Idol into gear was remembering just how brutal and vicious this show can be. Seacrest has denied the charge and E! said its internal investigation did not find proof of wrongdoing. You can also live stream on ABC official website (only for viewers in the United States and its territories), HULU or PlayStation Vue.
We'll each have different people that we're rooting for I'm sure, ' clarified the platinum pop sensation, 'but the great thing is that America is really the one that chooses so that's exciting'. After the assault, Seacrest allegedly asked her, "Are you going to sue me?"
Immediately after the premiere, at 11p/10c, Chandler Morgan introduces you to a West Georgia teen hoping for American Idol stardom.
