Sgt. Michael Andraychak said the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.
Smith was detained for public intoxication previous year after a vehicle crash with an unmarked police auto. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Saturday and the statement encouraged Smith to turn himself in by reaching out to a 24-hour operations center for the SFPD's special victims unit.
After evading police for more than 24 hours, Smith was taken to a rehab facility at his request, according to TMZ Sports. He hasn't played a down of football since the 2015 season. He's accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend in a domestic violence incident and leaving the scene. "He complied. They went and got him".
In addition to his troubles with substance abuse, Smith has also faced several other instances of other legal trouble over the years - including a hit-and-run, domestic violence and possession of illegal assault weapons.
In an effort to find him, San Francisco police asked Smith to reach out to investigators.
"Minutes later, a San Francisco dispatcher says Smith had drank two bottles of tequila and was possibly heading back to his Oakland residence in his Range Rover".
Smith was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, which is the same year he made the Pro Bowl and was named first-team All-Pro.
