Tran Dai Quang, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is on a state visit to India between March 2 and 4, 2018 at the invitation of President of India Ramnath Kovind.

India and Vietnam on Saturday inked three agreements in the areas of trade, agriculture and atomic energy.

"We will also explore possibilities in co-production and transfer of technology in the defence sector", he stated.

Modi said the two sides had extensive dialogue on all aspects of bilateral relationship and noted that Vietnam has played an important role in India's Act East policy framework and its cooperation with the ASEAN bloc.

President M Abdul Hamid is expected to welcome his Vietnamese counterpart Dhaka airport in the afternoon, President's office said.

The Congress delegation, which also comprised former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Union Minister Anand Sharma, met the visiting Vietnamese President, who is on a state visit to India.

In an endeavour towards bolstering bilateral ties, India and Vietnam on Saturday chose to enhance cooperation in defence production among other sectors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

Quang, who is on a visit to New Delhi, said that Vietnam reaffirmed its support to India to "further its relations and multi-faceted connectivity with ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) attaching high importance to the maintenance of security, maritime safety and freedom of navigation and over-flight, settlement of disputes by peaceful means on the basis of global law, including United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS".

He said that both countries respect the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (Unclos), adding that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to be deepened.

This will be a high level visit of any Vietnamese leader in 14 years as former President Tran Duc Luong travelled to Bangladesh in 2004. The goal of the MoU is to strengthen the technical cooperation in the field of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.

After the traditional wreath laying ceremony at Rajghat, President Quang and Prime Minister met before the delegation talks and discussed steps to further strengthen the relationship as well as other bilateral and regional issues.
