Russell Wilson gets chance to bat in Yankees spring training game

Russell Wilson stepped to the plate in the New York Yankees' spring training game against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, with the eyes of both Major League Baseball and the NFL upon him. Chasen Shreve, now a reliever with the Yankees, induced Wilson to ground into a double play in a June 2011 game.

"I think it's awesome", Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told media at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine. I'm hoping he's going to put the ball into right field a little more - going with the pitch.

Carroll did not seem to be upset with the Seattle Seahawks quarterback's baseball dalliance.

Pinch-hitting for Aaron Judge in the bottom of the fifth inning, the former college baseball player took a hefty hack - far too late - at a Max Friend, 93-mph fastball that tailed across the plate. "He's extraordinarily dedicated to doing everything he can to be right, I don't think at this early stage right now, they're not in the program here, there's a lot of free time and guys have to do their thing", Carroll said.

While he ended up striking out, the Super Bowl champion QB certainly did not embarrass himself.

Wilson also talked to reporters Thursday. Despite the fact that Wilson completed a career-low 61.3 percent of his 553 throws last fall, Carroll is confident his franchise quarterback will be a much better passer in the years ahead.

"I knew I faced him!"
