Apple could launch over-ear headphones this year: Ming-Chi Kuo

Rumor: Apple Pondering Premium Branded Headphones

Apple said to be working on high-end over-ear headphones, says KGI analyst

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple is working on a new over-the-ear wireless headphones design that'll ship with its own logo instead of under the Beats brand. The goal, Kuo suggests, would be to offer a heaping dose of portability and performance-headphones that would offer a much more impressive sound than a pair of AirPods, but still be just as convenient for everyday, cord-free use.

With iOS 12, Apple will reportedly put major features on second priority for the next two years and will try to fix current iPad and iPhone issues by adding additional changes to the operating system. Expectedly, the headphone will be more expensive than the AirPods. Apple bought Beats in 2014 for a bit of cool factor, and Beats technology eventually found its way into Apple Music and the company's own line of headphones.

Apple will automatically set-up the AirPods with any devices that are signed-in with the iCloud account associated with the iPhone.

The first, expected to land later this year, includes an upgraded wireless chip for managing Bluetooth connections and support for the firm's voice assistant Siri. Apple's rumoured over-ear headphones could launch later this year. The users will now be able to activate the little helper simply by saying the phrase "Hey Siri". So you can use it to charge your Apple Watch, your iPhone and Airpods all in one go.

Given that AirPods are wireless, and that Apple's newest iPhone models lack headphone jacks, it's nearly a given the new headphone model will be a wireless design.

The third-generation AirPods will supposedly be water resistant.
