"Her colleagues have quietly accused her of looking out for Porter and not the White House, and she has been visibly upset in recent days as her personal life becomes a national news story", the report said.

In his tweet, Trump referred to women's allegations about men's unwanted behavior generally and said, "Some are true and some are false".

Conway added that the president's Saturday tweet was more "generic", telling Tapper that Trump "never said the Me Too movement; he never said Rob Porter's name".

This time, it's over revelations disclosed by the ex-wives of former White House staffer Rob Porter that he allegedly physically abused them. "Now, he also says he's innocent, and I think you have to remember that ... but we absolutely wish him well".

Sorensen also resigned this week after being accused of domestic abuse by his ex-wife, White House spokesman Raj Shah confirmed Friday.

Porter resigned or was sacked Wednesday, a day after Kelly had defended him as "a man of honor" in a statement in which Hicks apparently had a hand.

"He was terminated yesterday and his last day was yesterday", Shah, the deputy press secretary said Thursday.

On Friday evening, the White House sent a letter to the committee saying the president was "unable" to declassify the Democrats' memo because it first must be revised to address Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice officials' objections about its "classified" and "sensitive" information.

Others in the White House told the newspaper that Kelly - who was installed in his current post in July to help bring order and stability to the White House - had known of the complaints since October.

Fields said Lewandowski yanked her arm as she attempted to question Trump, jerking her backwards so hard that his fingers left bruises.

The White House was also put on the defensive about Porter's interim security clearance, fielding questions about how someone could handle some of the nation's most sensitive documents while potentially being ripe for blackmail.

Other White House officials have said it was the release of the photos Wednesday morning that sealed Porter's fate. Kelly, along with Porter, helped organize the West Wing's policy and decision-making process and infused the staff with a clearer sense of objective, officials said. Kelly, meanwhile, was Porter's loudest defender, including in the first hours after the graphic photos of alleged abuse emerged.

Kelly has said he is willing to resign multiple times in the past over disagreements with the President, sources said, calling it a tactic.
