NJ.com reported that Toys R Us laid off about 15 percent of its headquarter staff in Wayne, New Jersey a year ago.
Online competition from stores like Amazon and Walmart have contributed to struggles at Toys "R" Us. More than half (84) of the planned closures are Babies "R" Us. The company has suffered since reports of decreasing sales during the 2017 holiday season.
The Cumberland Toys R Us store is not closing after all.
Toys R Us had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September. The starting discounts are up to 30 percent off. Closing locations will continue to honor customer programs including gift cards, Endless Earnings and credit card specials. The sales reportedly could start as early as February 7 and last through April.
