Four-year-old Asma went missing on January 13 from Jandarpar Gujjar Garhi area of Mardan and her body was found from sugarcane fields in the same area on January 17.
Punjab law minister has criticised Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police on Wednesday by saying that perpetrator in minor Asma's murder case belonged to victim's neighbourhood household and could not be traced for a long time.
The police also presented the accused, identified as Ghulam Nabi, with face covering before media.
While addressing a press conference alongside IG KP Police Salahuddin Mehsud, the police officer said an accomplice of the suspect had also been taken into custody.
The RPO said finger marks were found around the neck of the girl, adding that a 15 years old boy was also a suspect in the case.
He said on January 15 the suspect asked the minor girl to bring sugarcane from the filed.
Mina Saeed said the suspect was arrested after report of two DNA samples matched yesterday.
According to Punjab government, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government sent 145 samples of DNA to be matched. "In the Asma case, with just one spot of blood found & no other evidence, no CCTV footage, KP police worked professionally to catch culprit showing they have developed advanced forensic detection capability as well".
"Nor was there any political gloating by CM. This is the difference between KP's professional police force & the highly politicised & criminalised police force of Punjab & Sindh".
