FBI investigators believe they have discovered the body of 4-year-old Raul Gonzalez Johnson in a pond.
A tweet provided by the Charlotte, NC, FBI indicated that the boy's body was found in a pond off of Pearidge Road on Saturday afternoon at around 1:45 p.m.
Authorities say the Scotland County Medical Examiner's Office must confirm the identity and the cause of death.
Raul and his 6-year-old sister were being watched by their grandfather, who noticed the boy was missing around 11:30 a.m. "I thought maybe he was just hiding because he likes to hide, but he never stays gone this long he always comes back".
"This is the outcome everyone feared", Kersey said as he held back tears during a Saturday press conference.
"I guess that's just part of the job, they're not, you know, they're the only ones around so they're just checking everyone", she said.
"I told him to call 911", she said, crying.
Authorities are draining a pond near the area where a 4-year-old disappeared several days ago from his North Carolina home. He has black hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white and orange tiger-striped shirt and white trousers with rocket ships on them. A piece of clothing that could be from Raul's pajamas also had been found, but had not been confirmed.
"There is nothing we have found with interviews with family members, next door neighbors or information from the public that would indicate foul play", Kersey said.
More than 200 personnel and 100 volunteers have been searching a 2-mile radius surrounding Raul's Laurinburg home, Kersey said. "We've got trained people out there, they've come from all over North and SC, and hopefully this will be over soon", he added, WRAL reported. "I'm praying that we can move forward and continue to treat this as a search and rescue".
