Apple Releases iOS 11.2.5 Software Update

Apple announces Home Pod release date and price. Here’s why it’s not like the Amazon Echo or Google H

Apple HomePod Review: Apple, is this all you've got?

Apple's HomePod speaker is finally going on sale.

Announced at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2017, the cylindrical smart speaker features a seven-speaker array of tweeters, a four-inch subwoofer and a six-microphone array. Apple says HomePod will "automatically analyses the acoustics, adjusts the sound based on the speaker's location, and separates the music into direct and ambient sound". It is available in two colours: space grey and white. And yet HomePod has failed to really excite fans (except through leaks that gave us early details about the iPhone X). Apple.com, Apple Stores and select Apple authorised resellers will be selling the HomePod.

Perhaps more importantly, HomePod is also a smart speaker, marking Apple's first competitor to Google Home and Amazon Echo.

While the iOS 11.2.5 update mostly focuses on getting iOS devices ready for the February 9 release of the Apple HomePod, it also contains a new feature for news hounds. However, Amazon and Google are aiming to catch up by cutting deals to put their assistants into such products as Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles and Sony Corp. televisions. Neither Amazon Echo or Google Home are yet to offer this feature.

Apple markets HomePod as a great speaker first.

Apple states its new HomePod incorporates "advanced audio technologies" such as "beam-forming tweeters, a high-excursion woofer, and automatic spatial awareness". The Apple HomePod has a cylindric shape and it weighs 2 kg and a half.

The bigger danger for Apple, analysts said, is that consumers bought a rival speaker over the holiday season and have no immediate need for Apple's new product. The speaker will also be able to hear you over the music no matter how loud it is and how far away you are. With built-in Siri, you can set reminders, check messages or control your smart home appliances with your voice. Apple adds that you can also control other HomeKit smart home accessories. Users with a subscription will be able to access Apple Music, and check news, sports weather and more through the device.

SiriKit will help the HomePod to support third-party messaging apps, permitting users to ask Siri to send a message to any desired contact, like a friend or a family member, using apps such as WhatsApp.

HomePod delivers stunning audio quality wherever it's placed - in any room in the house, playing any style of music.
