A delegation of the United Nations Security Council on Monday concluded a three-day visit to Kabul, the first such mission in eight years, to meet the Afghan President and the Chief Executive, and assess the country's efforts to start a viable peace process, according to a report released by the UN.

Russian Foreign Minister has acknowledged Pakistan's efforts in eradicating terrorism saying militants spread inside Afghanistan along the area bordering Pakistan pose a grave threat.

Haley said Afghan officials told the UN envoys that "they're starting to see the Taliban concede; they are starting to see them move toward coming to the table" as a result of a new strategy the United States put in place last summer that has given the US military a freer hand to work with Afghan forces to defeat the Taliban.

The tension between the U.S. and Pakistan has recently grown over United States complaints that the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani network that target American troops in Afghanistan are allowed to take shelter on Pakistani soil. Wells said the U.S. wanted that the continuing presence of the Haqqani network and other terrorist groups within Pakistan's territory must be adequately addressed. Pakistan denies providing sanctuary for the Taliban. "We will also fight the terrorists who are standing against Pakistan".

The Taliban supreme leader Mullah Hebatullah has reportedly approved the visit of a Taliban delegation to Islamabad for preliminary talks on exploring ways to revive peace talks.

Reuters reported that the Taliban's Haqqani network last week released 14 captured Afghan Army soldiers in the eastern province of Paktia as a goodwill gesture ahead of the talks. But both the government and the Taliban have tried to distance themselves from the Turkey meeting.

The Taliban group spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid had earlier rejected the participation of the group's representatives in the unofficial talks that took place in Turkey.
