"A decision will be taken sooner than later but not in the context of this Test match against Afghanistan", said Choudhary while announcing the dates of Afghanistan's inaugural Test in Bengaluru from June 14-18. BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary said that several factors had been taken into consideration before deciding the venue for the historic match.

Phil Simmons, who was appointed Afghanistan's coach late past year, could hardly have wished for a more fitting opening fixture in the longest form of the game. The BCCI announced the decision after a meeting with officials from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) here. Since then, even their players had expressed desires of playing their first ever Test match against India. I believe that cricket will play a greater role in strengthening relations.

The journey of Afghanistan has been exceptional in the game of cricket.

Eight out of the 12 Test playing nations have been part of day-night cricket but not top-ranked India. From being just an associate nation for quiet some time, they impressed one and all with their heartening performance in the 2015 50-over World Cup in New Zealand and Australia - their maiden entry into the quadrennial event.

India now top the world Test rankings.
