R.I.P. Cranberries Singer Dolores O'Riordan

Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan dies aged 46

Her voice is full of emotion, while tremulous notes and distant backing vocals give the song an ethereal quality.

Dolores O'Riordan, a 19-year-old from the small townland of Ballybricken, had the looks of an indie waif straight from central casting but her plaintive voice was a thing of wonder able to go from tremulous pain to banshee wail in the space of a few octaves.

Police in London said a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead early on Monday at a hotel on Park Lane in central London.

Taken from The Cranberries" most recent album "Something Else", released a year ago, "Why' is a haunting meditation on loss, written after the death of O'Riordan's father.

RTE quoted O'Riordan's publicist as saying that she had died while in London for a short recording session. The cause of death wasn't immediately available.

"I once met Delores O'Riordan when I was 15", he wrote.

Dolores O'Riordan was 46. It threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of Rock.

Dolores O'Riordan, the lead singer of the Irish band The Cranberries, died in London on Monday, according to a statement from her publicist. The band went on to sell over 40 million records to become Ireland's second-best-selling rock band after U2.

Even though the band cancelled its U.S. and European tour dates in July due to O'Riordan's health issues, they were gearing up to tour again.

But by 2003 it was time for a change and the band announced they were taking some time off to pursue other opportunities. I remember as a young girl, hearing The Cranberries for the first time and wanting to be just like her.

"I knew why I hated myself". She is survived by her three children, Taylor Baxter, Dakota Rain, and Molly Leigh.

The singer had previously admitted three assaults and obstructing a garda after being taken off an Aer Lingus flight from New York's JFK to Ireland on November 10 2014. I'd never heard somebody use their instrument in that way.

"You get ups as well as downs".

In interviews Dolores was guarded and painfully shy, genuinely shocked that she has been rocketed from rural obscurity to such stellar heights so quickly.
