'Camila' confidently looks beyond 'Havana' on solo debut album

"I just wanted to do that and it did not work".

"We always get asked all the time if we're getting a fifth member and we wanted to show the world in an artistic way that, hey, the four of us are Fith Harmony and we're stronger and better than we've ever been".

Tension started after Cabello's 2015 collaboration with Shawn Mendes on "I Know What You Did Last Summer" the singer told The New York Times in a lengthy interview conducted in Miami.

Cabello announced on December 18, 2016, that she was leaving the band after the final stop of their Jingle Ball tour.

"I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life", Camila continued.

Though it may seem like eons ago for fans, Camila Cabello's official departure from Fifth Harmony only went down just over a year ago. Nope. She's made a decision to let that moment go to make room for all the awesome things going on in her life. I was just like, 'What? "It became clear that it was not possible to do solo stuff and be in the group at the same time", she said. After her request to write lyrics for Fifth Harmony was denied, Cabello, who said she wanted to pursue a solo career while still in the group, realized something had to change (via Spin).

"If anyone wants to explore their individuality, it's not right for people to tell you no."

Confident enough in her tenure as a solo artist to discuss the nasty split, Cabello finally dished on her side of the drama. Most recently, the singer hung out with her pals Taylor Swift and Ed Sheehan backstage during a Jingle Ball concert and was surprised to see Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were there as well. Ahead of the release of her debut solo album, the 20-year-old "Havana" pop star performed her newest release from the album on Wednesday night (January 10). Her 2017 single, "Havana", hit No. 2 on the Billboard charts, and her debut album, Camila, drops on January 12.
