Even in the white heat of a Merseyside derby - and a knockout, winner-takes-all one, at that - the world's most expensive defender managed to attract attention.

Virgil van Dijk headed home a late victor on his debut for Liverpool to send the Reds through to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Netherlands worldwide became the first player to score a victor at Anfield in an FA Cup tie against Everton, at the fifth time of asking.

The Toffees defender shoved his opponent into the front row of the Main Stand, provoking an angry reaction from the Brazilian, a melee and the two protagonists exchanging angry words which left Holgate apoplectic.
