Jose Mourinho insists Bristol City were 'very lucky' to beat Man Utd

JOSE MOURINHO claimed Bristol City were "lucky" following their stoppage time win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

After going a goal behind, Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised, but Korey Smith scored a late victor to send the home fans into delirium. "A little bit of wind and they fall", Mourinho had said, prompting the FA to ask the United manager to explain his comments. They had the luck of the game but they fought to be lucky. Also in the first half we hit the post twice. I think they scored when nobody expected them to score; they scored when we were the strongest team.

Lee Johnson described the incident as special as he described victory over big clubs like Manchester United to be historic worth living in the memory of many generations.

"I congratulate them. I don't want me saying they are lucky to be the main thing of it".

The home fans went wild as they cheered a regular win against a premier league top club.

Mourinho, who led United to victory in the competition last term, also criticised his players for treating the game like "another day at the office", and even inferred that some of his squad played like they did not want to turn up. We lacked the intensity that they had. Physically and mentally. But we were the team with the opportunities [in the second half]; everyone was waiting for our goal. You know the difficulty to beat this team.
