Texans Lose To 49ers, And Lose Tom Savage To Concussion

Time to throw another flag on the NFL's sideline concussion protocol.

Tom Savage took a hard hit in the first half of Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers. Savage could be seen on video shaking as he appeared dazed from the blow which drove his head into the turf.

According to reports on the scene, Savage then was taken into the medical tent during the possession change while the Texans were on defense.

Savage was slow to his feet after he was hit in the end zone by 49ers defensive end Elvis Dumervil with just under 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter. When Savage returned to the game moments later, it drew an angry response from the founding CEO of Concussion Legacy Foundation on Twitter. Yates hasn't played in a game since 2015 when he went 2-0 as Houston's starting quarterback.

After taking the hit, Savage spoke with the Texans' medical staff, ESPN reported. He tried to enter the game on the next series but a team official grabbed his jersey and pulled him away from the field. In the third quarter, the Texans announced that Savage had a concussion and would be out for the remainder of the game. "Imagine this is your father, brother, son".
