The elevation of Rahul Gandhi, who is presently spearheading the Congress campaign ahead of the December 9 and 14 Gujarat assembly polls, has been much talked about in party circles for around two years. He also called upon Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to allow him to contest the party President elections against him and attacked the "sycophants" within the party for protecting the dynasty system as their religion.

A day earlier, he had also written a letter to Rahul Gandhi in this regard.

"I have got information that the delegates who are going to vote for the party president elections are fixed, its rigged". It is a rigged election.it is a selection. "They have been handpicked", he told IANS.
