The Detroit Lions have added former Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney off waivers from Seattle. "We had some injuries and some things that we had to deal with". It is a spot where we have some guys that have played that spot.

Then again, only two of them - Michael Bennett (6.5) and Frank Clark (4.5) - have more than the three sacks Freeney produced over his first two games with the team.

"He did a nice job", Carroll said of Freeney. We're a little bit deeper there. We hated to do it, but we had to do something and that's where it happened.

Freeney was signed in late October by the Seattle Seahawks to boost Seattle's pass rush after Cliff Avril was lost to a neck injury earlier in the season.

He's totalled 125.5 sacks in his career, ranking 17th in National Football League history. He has been to the Pro Bowl seven times and was named first-team All-Pro three times.

The 28-year-old Ansah has had a disappointing season with just four sacks, but he's played well against the run.

In addition to Freeney, the Lions made the following players inactive: Running backs Dwayne Washington and Tion Green, return man Jamal Agnew, guards Don Barclay and Emmett Cleary and defensive end Jeremiah Valoaga.

Expect Freeney to make his debut for the Lions in Week 13 when they face the Baltimore Ravens.
