The incident took place after the police team conducted a joint raid at Gudia Properties at Dwarka Mor to arrest the wanted criminals. "The firing lasted for at least 30 minutes before the police team could go inside and overpower the suspects", said Amit Gandhi, who lives in another building in the vicinity and claimed to have had watched the gun battle from his terrace.

The Punjab Police today received a tip-off about the presence of notorious criminal Deepak alias Tinu alias Ravi in the house. The local district police assisted them in the operation.

"The weapons recovered from them are five.32 Bore with 100 cartridges, five.315 Bore with 12 cartridges, one.315 Bore Rifle, one 12 Bore Rifle and five.22 bore pistol", added the officer. A team of Punjab police along was zeroing in on a gang of carjackers who mostly operate in Punjab and South Delhi. He said that right before the firing started, three vehicles full of policemen had arrived outside the building.

During investigation, it emerged that the accused had taken the house on rent on October 21 with the help of a property dealer, the police said.

Metro train halt at the Dwarka Mor metro station was suspended temporarily because of the ongoing encounter.
