However, the Bureau of Labor statistics show the total number of non-farm jobs decreased by 1,700 since September. The September estimate was revised to a gain of 10,300 jobs.

October's state rate was down 0.1 percentage points from September; it also was down from the 3.3 percent reported last October. But not all communities and regions are feeling the benefits of this economy equally.

"In October, 3,383 additional Kansans became employed", said Kansas Secretary of Labor, Lana Gordon. More than 1,000 fewer people were unemployed locally in October compared with a year ago, while year-over-year unemployment fell by more than 6,000 statewide.

However, the number of unemployed in OH has increased by 11,000 in the past 12 months, from 285,000 in October 2016, when the state's unemployment rate was 5%.

Omaha's unemployment rate for October was 2.4 percent, down from 2.7 percent in September and 3.1 percent in October of a year ago. That's the lowest Lincoln rate since 2000, according to the Labor Department.
