Quiet Weather for Now

Another round of snow expected on mountain passes starting Tuesday night

New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible Wednesday afternoon.

Rain and locally breezy winds will increase over Northern California on Wednesday. As the front moves through it will bring snow and strong winds.

According NWS Birmingham, Birmingham has just under a 23 percent chance of seeing two inches of snow each year.

Issued for the potential of a significant winter weather event (heavy snow, sleet, ice, or blowing snow).

Snow levels will be above 8,000 feet through Thursday morning, lowering to 7,500 feet during Thursday afternoon and near 6,000 feet Thursday night.

The snow/rain will be buffeted by a south wind 15 mph to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph forecast. There will be periods of heavy rain and snow and near zero visibility at times.

Possible whiteout conditions and extremely hard travel conditions are expected over the Sierra passes from Wednesday through Thursday. If you must travel, keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications and a fully-charged phone with you.

A Winter Storm Warning will go into effect tomorrow and last through Thursday. night for the Sierra above 6000 ft.
