US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said that his country intends to keep negotiating a diplomatic solution with North Korea, which in recent months has carried out a series of controversial nuclear arms tests, until the Asian nation drops the first bomb.
I wish that the Trump administration officials, like Tillerson, who privately bash their Dear Leader, would man up and quit, and publicly disavow him.
Tillerson's comments on Sunday come amid soaring tensions between the U.S. and North Korea following a series of weapons tests by Pyongyang and a war of words between the two countries' leaders.
Asked if Trump's tweets undermined his diplomatic efforts, Tillerson said connections between US and Chinese leaders were close and that the Chinese "are not confused in any way" about USA policy toward North Korea.
"The President has also made clear to me that he wants this solved diplomatically", Tillerson said.
"I'm not going to deal with that petty stuff", he replied, saying he would not dignify the question with an answer. Although the president's tweets "raise tension in the region" and are "irresponsible", Corker is most concerned about what he characterized as the "castration" of Tillerson.
In Sunday's interview, Mr Tillerson again refused to comment on whether he had referred to Mr Trump as a moron. "I will work as hard as I can to implement his decisions successfully", he continued.
In Sunday's interview, Tillerson would not deny using the insult about the president.
"I checked", he told Tapper.
"The president speaks for himself", Tillerson said at the time. Yet when Trump publicly says the man in charge of representing his administration overseas "is wasting his time" on diplomacy everyone starts to doubt him.
I wish there were more Republicans in Congress who would publicly condemn Trump for his despicable behavior and actions.
Tillerson insisted the relationship is solid, and that the continuing public focus on whether he's being undermined by the president has not impeded his ability to succeed in his role.
The president was also angry with Tillerson's remarks after Trump declared there were "fine people" on both sides of the clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia, between white supremacists and anti-racist demonstrators that left one person dead, according to two people familiar with the Trump's beliefs but not authorized to discuss private conversations.
