A plane has crashed into the sea shortly after taking off from the worldwide airport in Ivory Coast's main city Abidjan.
Three people have been killed and with several others sustaining serious injuries in the crash as well.
According to a witness interviewed by Reuters, the crash would have happened during a thunderstorm, with heavy rain and lightning.
"The aircraft failed to land and crashed in the water".
Further, a French military source was quoted as saying that the plane was a Ukrainian-made Antonov chartered by the French army as part of its anti-jihadist Operation Barkhane.
French military sources said that French nationals were among the injured.
Abidjan, the country's major urban center, lies on the southern Atlantic coast of Ivory Coast.
France's ambassador to Ivory Coast, along with French gendarmes and soldiers, had quickly arrived at the crash site, where hundreds of local residents gathered to look at the wreckage.
