Oculus Go Set To Launch In Early 2018 For $199

Oculus Go: Facebook announces $199 Oculus Go VR headset

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a new Oculus virtual reality headset Wednesday, part of a vision to bring the new technology to the masses.

Facebook will permanently cut the price of the Rift system to $399 from $499, the company said. The Oculus Go is a standalone VR headset, and it, therefore, does not need to be paired to a phone to work. The Oculus Go is also compatible with software designed for Samsung's spin-off headset from Oculus, the Gear VR.

The Go was described by Zuckerberg as sitting in the "sweet spot" between PC VR and mobile VR and will likely spawn some interesting mid-range content both in the gaming market as well as other VR experiences.

To start Oculus Rift owners frothing at the mouth, the cheaper Oculus Go is equipped with a pair of new, "fast-switch" 2,560 x 1,440 LCD lenses, complete with glare reduction and integrated spatial audio embedded in the headband. Developers will have the new Oculus Go in their hands in November for making the most specialized programs.

The $900 package contains an Oculus Rift headset, Touch controllers, remote, three sensors and three Rift Fits headset foam pads. Its price (199 dollars-Atlantic) has not yet been set for Europe. Here, we present the latest news and everything you need to know about the Oculus Go, including release date rumours, United Kingdom pricing, design and features.

"Oculus Go is a Facebook-made alternative for the (Samsung) Gear VR that will not require a recent Samsung phone to operate", Schachter said.

Facebook has had to slash Oculus Rift pricing in an attempt to boost disappointing sales, one of the Oculus co-founders quit and Facebook had to pay out $500 million to settle a lawsuit filed against Oculus by a VR game development company.

Meanwhile, Facebook is also planning to convince the corporate world to jump into VR by introducing a new way through which companies can take advantage of this technology. However, there's also a 3.5mm headphone jack for private listening, or for when you're getting on your housemates' nerves.

Unlike its predecessor "Oculus Rift", this VR headset will not require plugging into a smartphone or a personal computer to function.
