He is said to be heading to a rehabilitation program in Europe, reportedly to be treated for sex addiction. Beckinsale posted a lengthy account of her experience on Instagram Thursday morning, recalling an encounter with Weinstein at the Savoy Hotel when the actress was just a teenager.

The incident follows a string of sexual harassment allegations being levelled against Weinstein from women who worked with him.

And in the waning hours of last week, as he struggled to retain control of the business in the wake of allegations first reported by The New York Times, Harvey Weinstein fired off an email to his brother and other board members asserting that they knew about the payoffs, according to people who spoke on the condition of anonymity about the confidential communication.

NY detectives already investigated Weinstein once, in 2015, when an Italian model said the studio executive grabbed her breasts and groped her. Detectives set up a sting where they recorded a conversation between the woman and Weinstein while he tried to persuade her to come into his hotel room. He said he was never told of a settlement with Battilana or any other payments made to women who alleged misconduct.

She said the reports were "deeply concerning" as senior politicians called for Weinstein to be stripped of his honorary CBE. She says she realized "he couldn't remember if he had assaulted me or not". "I found that it's quite easy not to masturbate in front of my employees, in fact its one of the easiest things I don't do".

His company, The Weinstein Company, has insisted it knew nothing of the mogul's alleged misconduct. Other women say Weinstein sexually harassed them in exchange for acting roles. "He had a lecherous look. He's big and fat, so I had to be forceful to resist him", she wrote in an opinion piece that appeared in The Guardian. "I left his room, thoroughly disgusted".

On Tuesday, Weinstein was accused of rape by three women - claims Weinstein "unequivocally denies" - and his British wife Georgina Chapman announced she was leaving him.

The New York Daily News reported that the case involved aspiring actress Lucia Evans.

In the audio of their conversation which was released by the magazine, Weinstein can be heard apologizing for grabbing her breast and then repeatedly pressuring her to come into his hotel room.

The district attorney's office declined to press charges, and Harvey Weinstein insisted that it was a setup, but some board members and top executives anxious that Harvey Weinstein had engaged in a pattern of behavior that could jeopardize the company.

But prosecutor Cyrus Vance said there was insufficient proof to pursue charges.

"Obviously he has some serious issues, and the tape is bad".

Republicans have launched withering accusations that liberal elites were protecting one of their own, as those in President Donald Trump's party demanded that Democrats jettison contributions by the movie mogul.

Weinstein attended the world-famous festival many times and several movies he produced have been selected in the competition.
