Simpson is being released after spending nine years behind bars in a 2008 armed robbery and kidnapping case. And he was released Sunday despite claims by the Department of Corrections that parolees aren't released on weekends.

O.J. Simpson was released on parole early Sunday after serving nine years in a Nevada prison for a botched sports memorabilia heist, officials announced.

Keast said there were no media present at the time he left.

"The Nevada Department of Corrections, in an effort to ensure public safety and reduce the potential for incident, released Orenthal James Simpson #1027820 on October 1, 2017 at 12:08AM from Lovelock Correctional Center", read a statement. She added that she had no information on Simpson's intended destination.

Malcolm LaVergne tells ABC's "Good Morning America" that Simpson is "making arrangements" for his release but nothing has been finalized.

LaVergne said recently that Simpson looked forward to reuniting with his family, eating steak and seafood and returning to Florida.

Simpson will remain on parole until September 29, 2022, where he must adhere to the conditions set by the Nevada parole board that include prohibiting him from drinking alcohol in large quantities or socializing with ex-convicts. Arruti said the plan was investigated and approved by the Division of Parole and Probation.

Simpson, 70, said his freedom has not fully registered in his mind. He also had a debit card.

Although Simpson was acquitted in a highly publicized trial for the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, he has never recovered from the subsequent legal and financial trouble.

Before his arrest he was filmed live on television being pursued by police on a Californian freeway.

Simpson didn't help quash the speculation, authoring a controversial book in 2007 called "If I Did It".

Despite Simpson avoiding payment for over 20 years, Cook is confident that he'll collect on behalf of the Goldman family. He was later found liable for their deaths in civil court.

Simpson, who served his time at Lovelock, was granted parole at a hearing in July.
