The new Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) TV 4K doesn't ship with Dolby Atmos surround sound support or support for 4K HDR YouTube videos. While HDR and Dolby Vision movies will be available for download, 4K movies will remain limited to streaming. Apple TV 4K starts at $179 for 32GB variant and $199 for the 64GB variant in the US.

For good 4K streaming quality, Apple recommends internet speeds of 25 megabits per second (Mbps) or higher.

The magazine and digital news service rated the Apple TV 4K 4 out of 5 based on its "gorgeous high-fidelity video".

The Verge raved about the Apple's 4K simplistic interface, bevy of applications, more cost-efficient 4K HDR movie selections, and the fact that iTunes is upgraded to 4K HDR free of charge.

Still, this is a far more flexible approach, and one which is likely to go down particularly well with Apple TV fans.

Is this the year the Apple TV finally becomes a no-compromise set-top box?

Even if you don't have a 4K television - and many of you may not - there are still some improvements in this update for you, big and small. In his review, Engadget's Devindra Hardawar called the Apple TV 4K the set-top box "we've been waiting for", but acknowledged that the device's remote might do little to settle the debate. If it's lower than that, Apple devices will automatically lower the quality.

The new box has a new chip at its heart, which improves performance overall. Ultimately, CNET viewed the new Apple TV as combining "peak picture with a high-end feel nothing else can match, but it costs too much for most people".

You've got yourself a fancy 4K TV, now it's time to get some 4K content on that bad boy.
