And the victor was Miss North Dakota Cara Mund.
In a question-and-answer session, Mund weighed in on the United States' recent withdrawal from the Paris climate accord, saying she thought it was a "bad decision".
Miss North Dakota is taking the crown from the 2017 Miss America victor, Savvy (Savannah) Shields who shared her advice for the incoming title-holder. Miss America 2017, Savvy Shields, former Miss Arkansas, placed the crown on her teary-eyed successor's head as the new Miss America accepted applause and cheers from the audience and judges.
"Mund's acceptance of the highly-coveted crown is just the beginning of a journey that will take her to every corner of the nation and around the world during her year of service as Miss America 2018", a press release noted.
"I do believe it's a bad decision", Mund said.

Cara Mund is an Ivy League Honors Graduate from Brown University where she earned her degree in Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations.
'It's important to have a woman's perspective, ' Mund, who had an internship in the U.S. Senate with Senator John Hoeven, told the AP.

"Honestly? It was to get to Miss America and make it past the Top 10", Mund said.
A North Dakota native, Mund referenced Wentz in her acceptance speech.
She is indeed the true victor because not just on stage but in real life also she overcame every defeat when she said that she has been diagnosed 3 times with cancer.
The third and fourth positions were taken by Miss District of Colombia Briana Kinsey and Miss Texas Margana Wood. Mund took over the title from last year's victor, Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields.
