A police report acquired by Ganim outlined an account from former Penn State assistant Mike McQueary, in which McQueary said Paterno told him a 2001 allegation the assistant coach made against Sandusky "was the second complaint of this nature he had received", according to the police report that followed Sandusky's 2011 arrest. The police report was filed shortly after Sandusky was arrested in 2011.
The line in question states that one of Penn State's insurers has claimed "in 1976, a child allegedly reported to PSU's Head Coach Joseph Paterno that he (the child) was sexually molested by Sandusky".
Penn State's former head coach had been asked under oath if he knew of any other allegations, to which he responded no.
Sanducky was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse in 2012 and is now serving his 30-60 year prison sentence. Sandusky was convicted in 2012 of sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years.
That McQueary's statement to police didn't surface in Sandusky's trial, however, was no mistake.
Paterno told The Washington Post's Sally Jenkins in 2012 that he had "no inkling" that Sandusky was a pedophile and serial child molester, going so far as to claim the entire concept of a man raping another man was foreign to him.

"Success without honor is an unseasonal dish; it will satisfy your hunger but it won't taste good", Paterno once said in one of his most famous quotes.
Last year, meanwhile, a court battle over insurance coverage owed Penn State for civil claims against Sandusky revealed - including the 1998 and 2001 cases - six different points at which there were claims dating back to the 1970s, in which people claimed university personnel either witnessed or were told about suspicious behaviors by Sandusky.
Paterno was never charged with any crimes in the Sandusky scandal.
Paterno died in January 2012.
