Only 152 hospitals were nationally ranked in a specialty.
Two other Emory hospitals - Emory University Hospital (No. 1) and Emory University Hospital Midtown (tied for No. 11) - were ranked in the Georgia list.
Wake Forest Baptist tied for the No. 2 hospital ranking in North Carolina with UNC Hospitals.
Leading the statewide ranking was Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Lancaster General Health parent company University of Pennsylvania Health System, which with Perelman School of Medicine is known as Penn Medicine.
In the report released today, the following VUMC programs were nationally ranked: Cancer; Cardiology and Heart Surgery; Diabetes and Endocrinology; Gynecology; Nephrology; Pulmonology; and Urology. UCHealth combines Memorial Hospital, Poudre Valley Hospital, Medical Center of the Rockies, UCHealth Medical Group, Broomfield Hospital, Grandview Hospital and University of Colorado Hospital into an organization dedicated to health and providing unmatched patient care in the Rocky Mountain West. He credited the rankings to "the dedication of our faculty, network physicians and staff".
U.S. News is just one of many organizations producing reports meant to hold health care organizations accountable and help consumers make wise choices.
Overall, U.S. News recognized Hershey Medical Center as the best hospital in south central Pennsylvania and the No. 4 hospital in the state.
United Kingdom officials said the jump in ranking for cancer care was due to UK's Markey Cancer Center becoming the state's only National Cancer Institute-designated center in the state.

Most of the procedures and conditions at Carlisle Regional Medical Center were rated as average, except for abdominal aortic aneurysm and fix and colon cancer surgery, which were both rated by U.S. News & World Report as "below average". And like most other rankings, they're not definitive guides.
The rankings are produced for the magazine by RTI International, a research firm in Research Triangle Park.
For these ratings, U.S. News de-emphasized its previous use of specialty rankings in favor of "procedures and conditions" ratings which rely on more objective underlying data, such as patient safety and experience, nursing care quality, and survival and readmission rates. The ratings in procedures and conditions, by contrast, focus on typical Medicare patients.
MGH also earned the #5 spot for Cardiology & Heart Surgery.
The medical center also performed well in a number of specialty rankings, securing a Top 50 placement in five specialties. Those categories for 2017-18 are gastroenterology and GI, pulmonology, abdominal aortic aneurysm fix, aortic valve fix, heart bypass, heart failure, colon cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer.
High-performing specialty programs were: Gastroenterology and GI Surgery; Geriatrics; Neurology and Neurosurgery; and Orthopaedics. It has two high performing procedures/conditions: heart failure and COPD.
There is some debate about which consumer health care rankings carry the most weight.
