Within the lore of Pacific Rim, most of the new Jaegers are "Mark VI" designs, the latest and greatest forms of the giant robots humanity built to tackle its steadily increasing Kaiju problem.
Boyega's Pentecost looks to be the new hotshot Jaeger pilot in Pacific Rim: Uprising, and we can't wait to see him in action. It seems like Boyega's character will be at the forefront this time around since Charlie Hunnam won't be back to reprise his role as Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket, and the younger Pentecost will presumably be teamed up with Scott Eastwood (who's now neck and neck with Jai Courtney for the title of Hollywood's blandest leading man).
Although Pacific Rim wasn't well received by critics, it did earn $411 million at the worldwide box office and became a favorite among fans of del Toro's work.
Tomaytoes, tomahtoes. "Uprising" will be released on February 23, 2018.
Steven S. DeKnight, whose credits include "Spartacus" and "Daredevil", takes over directing duties from Guillermo del Toro. Uprising is indeed coming, and now we have the teaser trailer to prove it. The trailer featured the new line of Jaegers considering all the originals were destroyed at the end of the last movie.
God, I love Pacific Rim names so much.
Despite being a somewhat gorgeous love-letter to classic monster and sci-fi films, the fact that Pacific Rim is getting a sequel is still kind of surprising. The footage used in this viral site teaser likely doesn't come from Uprising itself, but it may hint that the new and improved Jaegers won't need a co-pilot system of drift compatible soldiers since Jake appears to be on his own in his Jaeger.
