The veil of secrecy surrounding Disney's hotly anticipated Star Wars Lands was lifted last night, giving the media its first look at the next generation addition to Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The Star Wars-themed land is now under consturction at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disneyland theme parks. The other puts people in the middle of a battle between the Resistance and the evil First Order. Fans will be able to control the Millennium Falcon on a secret mission while another ride transports you to a fight between the First Order and the Resistance.
As Disney's D23 Expo kicked off, a number of models of the land were on display, showing us just what we can expect when it eventually opens sometime in 2019.
The 50-foot-long model is the most detailed glimpse that Disney has provided of the secretive park expansion thus far.
As The Mercury News reports, park-goers will walk through a landscape and architecture that looks similar to that featured in the Star Wars films. There have been rumors about an accompanying hotel to keep the Star Wars experience intact and that guests will choose the Light side or the Dark upon entering and that choice will affect their experience. Star Wars fans will remember Mos Eisley as the location where Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encounter Han Solo and Chewbacca in A New Hope.
The model shows building designs that would look right at home in a Star Wars movie, surrounded in lush plant life.
If you thought theme parks were dying, the news earlier this year that Nintendo is teaming with Universal Parks & Resorts on its own real-world Mario wonderland might have changed your mind.
