After Casting Problems, Disney Reveals Aladdin's Main Actors

Mena Massoud

Disney Announces The Lead Actors For Guy Ritchie's Live-Action Aladdin

During Disney's D23 Expo presentation today, Disney production President Sean Bailey announced that Mena Massoud will star as Aladdin, while "Power Rangers'" Naomi Scott will play Jasmine.

Bailey also reiterated that "the wonderful Genie will be played by the equally awesome Will Smith".

Guy Ritchie started trying to find his Aladdin in a global casting call in March. In the animated Aladdin, Robin Williams voiced the character and created one of the most famous Disney Animated characters. Scott and Indian actress Tara Sutaria were considered for the role of Jasmine.

Massoud is a Canadian actor whose credits include the series "Jack Ryan", "Open Heart" and "Saving Hope".

Will Smith was first reported by THR last week, but has now been confirmed. Massoud has secured the coveted role of the eponymous street rat turned faux royal, Aladdin.

Although Disney is still on the hunt to fill the roles of the Jafar, the Sultan, and Iago, filming is set to begin in London in August. However, reports suggest Ritchie is considering Tom Hardy to play the film's main antagonist since he is a huge fan of the actor's work. All three actors were rumored for their respective roles in recent months, but they've now been officially announced as part of the cast of Ritchie's Disney fairytale adaptation.
