Jammu and Kashmir police bust LeT module, arrest UP resident

He added that Sandeep alias Adil, was living in Jammu and Kashmir with two identities.

Sharma became close to Bashir Lashker, the LeT terrorist who was killed recently, after he helped the terror group steal Rs 20 lakh from various ATMs in South Kashmir, the sources said. Senior superintendent of police Anant Dev Tiwari, however, clarified, "We have not detained them, but only called them to know more details about Sandeep."The suspected terrorist's brother, Praveen, said, "Sandeep studied till class VIII but then dropped out".

He said Sandeep was among the people rescued from the house, where the militants were holed-up. We were surprised to see a non-local sitting in the same house where Lashkari was taking shelter, so we chose to go further. It raised the fingers of suspicion. "He was also involved in bank robbery cases". His arrest led to Shah being caught.

Khan told that Sandeep had come to Kashmir for the first time in 2012. "In these crimes, they worked in conjunction with the Lashkar".

Police said that Kumar was arrested at Mir Bazar in a robbery case sometime in March 2017 and remained in judicial custody until he was released on bail.

"We will investigate all non-local labourers in the Valley". However, after that, he started visiting Kashmir frequently and got in touch with the Lashkar. In the winters, he would go outside the valley, especially to Patiala. "They conducted some bank robberies".

Over a dozen bank robberies have taken place in Valley after demonetisation in November a year ago.

In the investigation, Anantnag police found that Sharma and others hatched a criminal conspiracy leading to providing shelter, ferrying of terrorists from one place to other for terror strikes and actively participating in terrorist activities.

A youth from Nai Mandi locality of Muzaffarnagar who was missing for four years was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday for being part of Lashkar terror module. IGP said that Sandeep was also involved in militant attack on policemen in Thajiwara Achabal in Anantnag that left six cops, including an SHO dead.
