Police have found four young children and their father apparently stabbed to death in a home in the U.S. state of Georgia and have taken the mother into custody. One child was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said they detained a woman, though no charges were immediately announced.
Police said "specifics on the ages of the children or a motive for this horrendous crime is still unknown".
"She said her dad passed away months ago, she was in depression and we go to her house and pray sometimes for her dad", neighbor Letty Perez told WSB-TV.
Pihera said the deceased victims are still inside the home.
The children were recently enrolled in an afterschool program and were getting to know people in the community, according to reports.
"Right now, the indication is that the suspect used a knife, however, the medical examiner's office will be able to conclusively decide that later upon autopsy".
The injured girl was still alive on Thursday afternoon, police said in a brief update on the case.
Pihera told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the language barrier initially made it hard to communicate. Their father was in his mid-30s.
Crime scene tape surrounded the home and parts of the yard in the Loganville area, about 30 miles (48 kilometres) east of Atlanta. Officers who answered the call had arrived at the scene and found the five dead bodies.
