Marc-Andre Fleury at Wednesday night's expansion draft. “Ill give it everything Ive got to win some games and try to get into the community to meet people and spread the word about the Golden Knights.”.

Some of the players Vegas took last night could be on the move, notably defensemen Marc Methot and Trevor van Riemsdyk.

"At the end of the day I don't care if I go one, two, three, four, like it doesn't matter to me", said Patrick, who threw out a ceremonial first pitch before Wednesday's Cubs game at Wrigley Field.

"I believe we put together a great team from the net out", Golden Knights owner Bill Foley said after participating in his first Board of Governors meeting.

"I think it's been exciting for our franchise, exciting time for our scouts", said Shero, who was hired as New Jersey's general manager in May 2015.

Soon, the hype of being Vegas' first ever draft pick will die down and it'll then be time for Glass to get to work.

They also added Panthers forward Reilly Smith, Wild forward Alex Tuch, Islanders defense prospect Jake Bischoff and Lightning forward prospect Nikita Gusev as well as the contracts of David Clarkson from Columbus and Mikhail Grabovski from the Islanders. McPhee came away with an additional five picks in this year's draft, one in 2018, three in 2019 and one in 2020.

Vegas needs to select 14 forwards, nine defencemen and three goaltenders. The 32-year-old opted to waive his no-movement clause with the Penguins for the chance to become a starting netminder once more after Matt Murray stole his long-time No. 1 job in Pittsburgh.

J-F Berube (New York Islanders) will be Vegas's third goalie.

Vegas landed a first rounder in 2017 and a second in 2019 from NY _ all to likely keep the Knights from selecting one of Brock Nelson, Calvin de Haan, or perhaps Ryan Strome. The event was held at the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Ottawa Senators also start at home, against back-to-back Presidents' Trophy-winning Washington Capitals.

The Calgary Flames parted with Deryk Engelland who played his WHL career with the Moose Jaw Warriors. He had the proper temperament to make the expansion draft a sure bet.

“My roots are here, ” Engelland said. It is expected that the Knights will be announcing major names in the league which will surely decrease the firepower of other teams. For it to finally happen, its fantastic.

Montreal Canadiens: After Montreal traded for forward Jonathan Drouin before the expansion draft, the Canadiens had to leave 22-year-old winger Charles Hudon exposed. He was a member of the Colorado Avalanche when that franchise moved to a new market in 1995-96, the Carolina Hurricanes when that franchise moved to a new market in 1997-98 and the Minnesota Wild when that franchise joined the National Hockey League as an expansion team in 2000-01; he was claimed in that expansion draft.

Quality goaltending was key to those clubs and Fleury should offer something similar to the Knights. He went 21-25-11 in his first season in Florida, helping the Panthers complete their inaugural season with a respectable 33-34-17 record.

Marchessault seemingly came out of nowhere last season to lead the Panthers scoring attack. Oscar Lindbergh has potential, as does Nate Schmidt.

In the short term, although the free agency period will bolster their roster, Vegas will struggle to be competitive in a very strong Western Conference.

All of the Golden Knights' selections were announced during the National Hockey League awards show. Neal's current number one option is Cody Eakin. Now David Schlemko isn't going to put up the offensive numbers Beaulieu did, but he's still going to be a solid player. We had contemplated doing a few different things and using a second-round pick to do it, but we ended up getting the guys we wanted to get, so we didn't have to do that.
