Bruno Mars, nominated for 5 honors, to open BET Awards

Mars, who is nominated for five BET Awards - including Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, Video Director of the Year for "That's What I Like", Video of the Year for "24K Magic" and Album of the Year for 24K Magic - has been on tour for most the summer in support of his third studio album. "I am looking to turn this whole experience into a joyful homecoming". Those who don't want to watch the award show on television have several options to choose from when it comes to viewing this year's ceremony.

And aside from Bruno, some of music's biggest names are set to take the stage and get the crowd pumped up, including A$AP Rocky, Big Sean, Chris Brown, DJ Khaled, El Debarge, French Montana, Future, Gucci Mane, Kamasi Washington, Lil Wayne, Mary J. Blige, Maxwell, Migos, New Edition, Post Malone, Roman Gianarthur, Swae Lee, Tamar Braxton, SZA, Trey Songz and Xscape. The network has two live streams planned for Sunday - a red carpet preshow starting at 6 p.m. and a ceremony stream starting at 8 p.m.

Awards season is a wonderful time of the year.

Nicki Minaj who is a seven-time victor for best female hip hop artist will face off against Cardi B, Missy Elliott, Remy Ma and Young M.A. New Edition, who had success with their BET biopic this year, will receive the lifetime achievement award, while Chance the Rapper will earn the humanitarian award.

Look for a nod the major loss that hit the hip hop community this week, when legendary rapper Prodigy died during a stop in Las Vegas for a performance.
