Two months ago War Machine was found guilty on 29 of 34 counts, including battery, sexual assault and kidnapping, but avoided attempted murder charges thanks to a hung jury. She suffered a lacerated liver, broken rib and lost two teeth during the assault. She said he also threatened to rape her.
In August 2014, Mack and Thomas were attacked by War Machine in Mack's Las Vegas residence.
War Machine apologized to Mack directly in a lengthy statement posted to Twitter one week after his conviction, saying he was finally at peace after learning he had faced up to life in prison without parole.
"I don't know if my life will be complete in 12 years or 20 years or 30 years, but I do know when he gets out he will kill me", Mack added.
"These circumstances are what has transformed me into a real man, how can I disrespect god by weeping over them?" "I should have killed myself by now", he said (via ESPN). "There is no reason right now that I should be in the dirt right now laying next to Aaron Hernandez".
"There's not a day that goes by that I don't seriously regret all of the things that I did", said War Machine. "And to top it off, something's not right with my head".
"I hate that I had to hurt the woman I love, my family", Koppenhaver told the judge. I've hated my impulses.
The judge rejected Leiderman's bid for a new trial based on an obscure 1911 state law that the defense attorney said would have let Koppenhaver tell the jury that he "just lost it" and fell into a blind rage amounting unconsciousness during the attacks, and therefore could not have known he was committing a crime.
Mackinday's mother, Erin Mackinday, said she will probably never know half of what happened to her daughter.
Liederman said Koppenhaver had been a model prisoner and found religion and remorse while in custody.
Koppenhaver, whose last MMA fight was in 2013, said the life sentence he faced behind bars was not "too high a price" for his actions, and begged for Mack's forgiveness.
