Melissa McCarthy adds spice (and Spicer) as host of 'SNL'

"Let me put this whole Russian thing to bed: Trump is innocent", he seethed at the press corps.

"What if he's lying to you?" one journalist asks. The sketch included the footage that fans caught filming in the streets of New York City this week.

"Wait, so did I get him?".

At a time when many find themselves needing to laugh so that they don't cry, we'll take the laughs where we can get them. "Nothing matters? Absolutely nothing matters anymore?"

Cellphone videos posted on social media showed McCarthy suited up shouting at cars to get out of the way as she cruised through traffic.

SNL creator Lorne Michaels agreed with the casting of McCarthy, and he said, "Absolutely".

Then there was this special added bonus: Aidy Bryant as Sarah Huckabee Sanders (assistant press secretary and stand-in for Spicer after a much ridiculed "bushes" incident last week; more on that in a bit). "I'm filling in for Sean today because as you know, Sean is fulfilling his duty in the naval service".

The White House press secretary was dogged earlier in the week by questions about former national security adviser Michael Flynn, then was forced to hide in or behind the bushes as reporters sought answers about the firing of Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey. Because he told us so. "No one use it", McCarthy declared.

"I have a wife, I took vows", McCarthy's Spicer answers.

"Is this like The Godfather where you kiss me and nobody ever sees him again?" he asked worriedly.

Before Melissa McCarthy had her chance to shine as host, Alec Baldwin returned as Donald Trump. Her first sketch, "Just Deserts", was basically a food fight (cream pies).

Kate McKinnon reprised her role as iconic actress Debette Goldry. It was even McCarthy's idea to hike up her leg to show off the high-heel Ivanka shoe. They also said they participated in promotional work for lead paint to make it seem that it was safe to consume.

President Trump then steps forward, urging Spicer to lean in for a kiss.

Sublette, who's friends with McCarthy from the Los Angeles-based Groundlings, knew the comedian would be okay playing a man and being outrageous on camera.
