U.S. official to Israel: Western Wall not your territory

The American delegation accompanying Trump during his visit has reportedly expressed its opposition to a request from Netanyahu to share the podium with Trump in order to deliver a five to seven minute speech either before or after the United States president.

Moreover, Tillerson's most ferocious promoters, such as James Baker, Condoleeza Rice, and others, long believed that America was right to try and impose a two-state solution on Israel and the Palestinians, instead of letting the two parties engage in direct negotiations.

President Trump faces pressure from one of his largest donors to deliver on his promise to move the USA embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, even as he seeks to broker what he regards as the ultimate deal: peace between Israel and Palestine.

Republican Party mega-donor Sheldon Adelson was "furious" about comments Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made concerning the USA embassy in Israel, sources close to the casino magnate told Axios.

"The president has recently expressed his view that he wants to put a lot of effort into seeing if we can not advance a peace initiative between Israel and Palestine", Tillerson added.

He tells NBC's "Meet the Press" that Trump is listening carefully to both Israelis and Palestinians about whether moving the embassy would be helpful for peace talks or a distraction.

The Western Wall is revered as the holiest site where Jews can pray, and according to Channel 2 TV, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked to join Trump. Palestinians say it stems from anger over decades of Israeli rule.

US presidents of both parties have repeatedly waived a USA law requiring the embassy be moved to Jerusalem.

In addition to two meetings with Netanyahu while in the Middle East, Greenblatt met with Abbas, Palestinian civil society groups and visited with Palestinian children in a West Bank Refugee camp. "I prayed for the president and wished him success, and I said the blessing one says when reaching a new milestone".

Donald Trump is set to meet Palestinian and Israeli leaders nearly back-to-back on his first foreign trip as U.S. President.

Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, the Israeli authorities say. Palestinians also claim Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state and past peace proposals have proposed splitting the city between East and West Jerusalem, or creating an internationally governed city.

Bennett said he was not sure why Trump has changed his rhetoric.
