The event was prompted, the host said, by the 20th anniversary of Colbert working in late night, which began when he was a regular on "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central. "We go out to this cross burning in the countryside. there's a cross burning behind me, and I said, 'I'm Stephen Colbert, and this is Comedy Central". You know, there is one thing for sure: There is no scenario in which I will ever say, "God I wish George W. Bush was president'".
Stewart ended on a yogurt-infused sitcom-father speech, to cap off the nostalgia. Referring to Colbert's attention-grabbing joke last week at the expense of President Donald Trump, he said, "You have a potty mouth".
Then, in his best Trump voice, Colbert said, "Thanks for the presidency, Jimmy", and added, "Don't let the door hit 'ya where the Electoral College split 'ya". "The place was being run by a guy who was doing the same thing", Roger Ailes, Stewart pointed out. I call it "Disgrace the Nation.' You're not the POTUS; you're the 'BLOTUS.' You're the glutton with the button".
Colbert acknowledged Stewart's role in their careers. "Like, it's the difference between insult and injury". Next, Oliver appeared, though he was adamant that he was fellow former Daily Show correspondent, Steve Carell, proving his claim by saying he had "an unbroken line of body hair from my eyebrows to my ankles".
On Tuesday's edition of "The Late Show", host Stephen Colbert held a reunion with his "Daily Show" colleagues.
"I had to flee the Klan one night", Colbert confessed. The process of making the show somehow became entwined with my process of making sense of things that I didn't understand, and the two sort of merged at some level.
After Jon Stewart makes a comment about how the people on the couch reflect the level of diversity on the show, the group revisits some old segments from their days of baiting weirdoes and racists for ratings. "This was what it was like to hang out backstage for years at the "Daily Show"," said Colbert. One Daily Show just would not be enough.
If you didn't know, Stephen got in a bit of trouble during a recent rant against Donald Trump, which had some asking for him to get fired from his CBS gig.
They reminisced about all the disgusting racists and homophobes they met, and Colbert told the funny/scary story of the time he had to "haul ass" from a Ku Klux Klan cross-burning.
