John Daly still knows how to party, and he had reason to celebrate Sunday night after his first Champions Tour victory. Poor tee shots on the final three holes led to mistakes that Perry and Armour could not take advantage of in trying to chase him down.

Daly, classically decked out in stars and stripes pants, limped over the line with three bogeys in a row to finish the tournament but still managed to claim the championship by one shot.

This is Daly's first USA win since the 2004 Buick Invitational on the PGA Tour and his first win anywhere since a PGA of Europe event in 2014.

Harman said it would be wrong to call his winning putt unbelievable. Moments later friends and colleagues including players Esteban Toledo and Michael Allen ran out to spray their pal with champagne.

"I didn't think (the win) would come this soon", Daly said after his 22 start on the Champions Tour.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) - John Daly says he's not accustomed to seeing himself atop the leaderboard.

Daly vaulted up the Schwab Cup on the Champions Tour 34 spots to number 8 winning $322,500 on Sunday.

Daly won two majors - the 1991 PGA and 1995 British Open - but his PGA Tour career unraveled as his personal life spiraled out of control. "Hopefully, I can keep this confidence going". I had my opportunities to flip the score on holes but never could do it.

It was a throwback Daly performance, complete with his signature wild trousers, three bogeys on the final three holes to make things more interesting, and topped off with a champagne shower. "Good for him. That first win is always special".
